Agencies that pay attention to data and perform customer surveys absolutely have the customer in mind This helps inform project planning and feasibility because it is in this planning stage and the design stage that the public has the opportunity to offer comments It is often this public dialogue that drives project involvement and increase the likelihood of delivering the right project for the right time WHAT IS YOUR OUTLOOK ON THE INDUSTRY PARTICULARLY IN THE NORTHEAST REGION My outlook continues to be bullish for the entire industry and especially in the Northeast where we have the largest concentration of transit highway bridge and related facility infrastructure in the country There continues to be a renewed focus on transportation infrastructure and a realization that the rehabilitation or replacement of key infrastructure assets can no longer be postponed Numerous megaprojects are underway in the region resulting in a robust transportation market for engineers and contractors In New York State we are seeing many new design build projects to renew and replace bridges and interchanges that have been in need of repair for decades In New York City several massive transit projects are underway with more coming on line The Long Island Railroad is in the midst of procuring a design build team to build a third track on its heavily traveled main line from Floral Park to Hicksville a 10 mile corridor that will serve to reduce train congestion close grade crossings and improve stations and parking facilities Amtraks Penn Station has recently experienced increased delays due to dated infrastructure systems and equipment severely impacting riders commute times who utilize Northeast Corridor train services I expect that we will see accelerated investments to improve this system and they will require complex engineering and building solutions to allow for continued passenger operations while improvements are made We are involved with several projects including the Gateway Hudson Tunnel design project that was awarded to STV in a joint venture to provide two new tunnels under the Hudson River for expanded service into New York City and beyond for both Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT We are also in a joint venture for the multi billion East Side Access program which continues to move forward to provide access for Long Island Railroad Service into Grand Central Station We were recently awarded Phase 2 of the New York MTAs Second Avenue Subway for the expansion of this subway to 125th Street in Harlem This critically important project represents the achievement of a commitment made almost 100 years ago when the city realized it needed a subway line east of the Lexington Avenue Line the most heavily travelled line not only in the system but in North America as well Design of phase 2 includes the subway tunnels stations systems and ancillary facilities to support the operation of the new line 22 mETRO mAGAZINE JUNE 2017 metro magazine com CONSULTANT ROUNDTABLE Trusted For Decades Our family of companies offer a vast array of solutions for the transportation industry For over 70 years we have served customers across the United States 800 BUS SALE CompleteCoach com ShuttleBusLeasing com ZepsDrive com TransitSales com Untitled 15 1 5 10 17 3 18 PM For extended version visit metro magazine com
